Having come off the bench on Friday night at Dulwich Hamlet in the Emirates FA Cup, Canice played the full 90 minutes as The Cumbrians headed to Morecambe in the Leasing.com Trophy on Tuesday night. Jarrad Branthwaite gave Carlisle a 26th minute lead but the home side netted three without reply after the break to dump United out in the Group stages. The appearance was Canice’s ninth in the north west since joining. The post-Pressley era begins on Saturday with a trip to Port Vale in Sky Bet League Two.

Marcus Forss wasn’t involved for AFC Wimbledon as they too crashed out of the competition following a 3-1 defeat on the road. The Dons headed to Southend United but were undone by two first-half strikes and a late Tom Hopper effort, Tommy Wood netting in reply. Sky Bet League One action returns on Saturday with a trip to Blackpool.

Looking ahead, there’ll be no action this weekend for Emiliano Marcondes and Halil Dervişoğlu due to the international break while Ellery Balcombe is away with England Under-20s. In Scotland, Reece Cole’s Partick Thistle visit Stenhousemuir in the Scottish Challenge Cup Quarter Final while there’s a National League clash between Justin Shaibu’s Boreham Wood and Jaden Brissett’s Maidenhead United.
