Patrik Gunnarsson was unable to help Iceland avoid defeat against Italy in Under-21 European Championship Qualifying on Saturday.

Riccardo Sottil opened the scoring on the half-hour in Ferrara with Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone netting twice in the last six minutes to make the game safe. Iceland’s afternoon got worse in injury-time with Sveinn Aron Guðjohnsen seeing red. Defeat leaves Patrik and his teammates third in Group A with nine points from their opening five matches. The appearance was the 19-year-old’s seventh for his nation at Under-21 level ahead of a friendly against England on Tuesday.

Also in action on Saturday was Jan Žambůrek as the Czech Republic Under-19s ended their tour of Holland with a 2-1 win over Mexico in 's-Gravenzande. The 18-year-old earned his seventh cap at Under-19 level as the Czechs trailed at the break following a Julian Vázquez strike after 18 minutes. Jan was replaced at the break with Lubos Kozel’s side netting twice through Antonin Svoboda and Lukas Cerv.
