A hard-fought match between the First team and Development team brought the curtain down on the season with the First team coming out victorious in the end.
It was another great occasion for the ladies as they took to the Griffin Park playing surface which had, only a couple of hours earlier, hosted Championship football, with Brentford beating Preston 3-0 in the last match of the season.
Although the First Team ran out comfortable winners, it didn’t go all their way; a mis-placed pass in midfield early in the first half resulted in a breakaway for the Development Team and a well taken goal by Jasmine Williamson. After that the First Team started to dominate the game with some neat passing and fine balls through the middle and out to the wide players.
Julie Cartmell in goal did well in goal to keep out a number of chances but eventually the pressure told and goals went in. The pick of the first half goals was probably a Rebekah Wiltshire strike from the edge of the box after a fine run and cut back from the touchline from Sophie Troth.
The second half was much the same with plenty of use made of the substitutes for both sides, and some good passing and positive forward play. Emily Boycott in goal for the First Team was relatively untroubled apart from dealing with some over hit long balls, and back passes from her own team. However, she was beaten by the goal of the day as Shannon Read fired in a spectacular shot from 25 yards out.
The final score was 7-2 in favour of the First team but the Development team were not disgraced and played their part in making this a very entertaining match.
