Neal Maupay has been crowned the Brentford FC Supporters’ Player of the Year for 2018/19. The striker took nearly 58 per cent of the votes cast by supporters, beating Romaine Sawyers into second with Saïd Benrahma in third. The award was presented by Bees Head Coach Thomas Frank at this evening’s Player of the Year Awards Dinner, held at Holiday Inn, Brentford.

Today’s goal against Preston North End took the 22-year-old’s goal tally to 28 for the season. Neal’s 25 Sky Bet Championship goals is the most by a Brentford player in a league season since tonight’s Hall of Fame inductee Steve Phillips struck 32 in 1977/78. It’s also the most goals by a player in a league season in the top two tiers since 1937/38.

The Player of the Year award completed a well-deserved hat-trick for one of the Championship’s leading marksmen as he also picked up the Players’ Player of the Year award and the Bees Travel Club Away Player of the Year. Neal played 49 games in all competitions this season to get his 28 goals, his 25 league goals - the second most in the division - came in 43 games.
