Brentford B midfielder Kolbeinn Finnsson has joined Icelandic side Fylkir on loan. The 19-year-old flew home on Thursday night to sign a contract until 30 June.
Kolbeinn, an Icelandic international, started his career at Fylkir having grown up close to the club's facilities in Reykjavik. He made his full debut for the Club at the age of 14, still holding the record as their youngest-ever player. He returns one week into The 2019 Pepsi Max League season, with Fylkir top of the 12-team pile after the first round of games.
This will be Kolbeinn's first loan move away from the club since he signed permanently from FC Groningen last summer. So far he has played 43 times for Brentford B and scored nine goals. He also had squad number 38 this season after appearing on the bench during Brentford's FA Cup fixture with Swansea City.
In January this year, he made his full international debut in a 2-2 draw with Sweden in Qatar. He then secured a second cap by starting in Iceland's 0-0 draw with Estonia.
Lars Friis, B Team Head Coach, said this of the move: "I'm pleased to see Kolbeinn get this opportunity in his home country. Not only is it a chance for him to play men's football for two months, it is also a chance to experience a different style of the game. He has worked hard this season, been one of our most consistent players, and we look forward to seeing how his loan progresses in May and June."
Speaking to us upon agreeing the deal, Kolbeinn said: "I'm really looking forward to going back to Iceland and playing games there. Hopefully I will learn a lot, and come back as a better player. I can't wait to go back and see Reykjavik, all while playing for my old club. They gave me my start in football, I now want to work hard for them in the coming weeks."
