Top of the table clash
A Neal Maupay penalty looked like it would give Brentford all three points away to Leeds United, but a late equaliser ensured the spoils were shared. The Bees had the better of the game against the league leaders and Maupay stroked home a penalty in the second half to give the visitors a deserved lead at Elland Road. But Pontus Jansson headed in late on to level it up and give both teams a point.
Dean Smith leaves
A few days after the draw at Leeds, and with Brentford seventh in the table, Dean Smith left his role as Brentford FC Head Coach to take up the same position at Aston Villa. Richard O'Kelly followed him a few days later. Dean took charge of 143 Brentford games in all competitions, winning 57 of them and losing 51.
Thomas takes over
Thomas Frank was promoted from his position as Assistant Head Coach to become Brentford FC Head Coach. Thomas had been with The Bees for just under two years, joining the Club in December 2016.
Defeat to Bristol City in Thomas' first game
Chris Mepham was sent off as Thomas Frank's first game in charge of Brentford ended in defeat. Bristol City’s Niclas Eliasson scored the only goal of the game in the dying minutes to condemn The Bees to defeat. Even John Dean, celebrating turning 93 by being mascot for the day, could not help The Bees get the points.
Brian Riemer arrives
Brian Riemer joined Brentford FC as Assistant Head Coach. He joined The Bees from FC Copenhagen, where he had been Head Coach of the Under-19 group. Brian has also worked with the First Team during a long association with the 12-time Danish champions.
