Benrahma's Hull strike named Goal of the Season

Attacker weaves a spell and wins the award

5 May 2019

Saïd Benrahma’s stunning solo effort against Hull City in February has been voted the 2018/19 Goal of the Season. The Algerian winger came out on top in a close battle with top scorer Neal Maupay, following the latter’s dramatic injury-time winner against Aston Villa back in February. Ollie Watkins' goal against Stoke City back in August was third.

With the game level at 1-1 midway through the first-half, Saïd picked the ball up just outside the penalty area before dancing past two challenges and curling an unstoppable effort into the top corner. The goal set the 23-year-old on his way to a first career hat-trick and was also selected as the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month for February by supporters across the country. Saïd missed the end of the season with injury and is out of the country as he recovers. He sent a message of thanks to the Player of the Year Awards dinner this evening after hearing of the win.

It was a hugely impressive debut season in England for Saïd as he netted 11 times, and provided 17 assists, in 45 appearances across all competitions. He was twice nominated for the PFA Player of the Month award and was also on the EFL Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month shortlist for February. His award winning goal can be seen below.
