One of the Brentford Women's team had success at the Denham Tournament, reaching the last four. The Bees had four teams competing in a hard-fought tournament against opposition from AFC Wimbledon, Queens Park Rangers, Chesham and Denham among others. And at the event last Monday, 27 May, one of the six-woman teams reached the semi-finals.

With only one recognized goalkeeper between them, all four teams did well to keep the goals out and the outfield players stepped up to the mark when their time came to be between the posts.  Particular praise from the coaching staff went to Mollie and Regan, with Club Captain Charlotte Tanner leading by example.

Each team played seven league matches and it was only fine margins that stopped more teams progressing to the quarter finals. The highlights included a great win for one team to get to the semis, and two stunning stand out goals: a lob over the goalkeeper from inside her own half by Lucy Johnson, and a fantastic strike by Courtney Jane Woolley.

A nasty looking injury to Tilly Marshall in the quarter-final caused some concern, but sincere thanks must go to the organisers and the opposition in that match for allowing us to bring in Sarah from one of our other teams to take her place. All in all a tough day against some good teams and individuals, and the ladies certainly did themselves proud.

The next outing is on the 16 June at the Ashford Town tournament when there will again be four Brentford Women’s teams competing for a trophy, on a day that promises more than a little local rivalry.
