Julian’s Guinea earn point in African Cup of Nations opener

Bees defender makes his third international appearance as Guinea draw 2-2 with Madagascar

23 June 2019

Brentford defender Julian Jeanvier completed the game as Guinea started their African Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-2 draw against Madagascar in Group B.

Sory Kaba had put Guinea ahead after 34 minutes, but Madagascar responded with two goals in six minutes after the interval; Anicet Andrianantenaina and Charles Carolus Andriamahitsinoro the scorers.

Francois Kamano's 66th-minute penalty earned a point for Guinea, after Romain Metanire had fouled Ibrahima Traore.

Julian is one of only three players in the Guinea squad currently based in England, along with Fulham's Ibrahima Cisse and Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

Guinea face Nigeria next on Wednesday, while Madagascar take on fellow debutants Burundi on Thursday.
