Republic of Ireland Under-21 made a successful start to the prestigious 2019 Maurice Revello Tournament, better known as the Toulon Tournament, yesterday. Ireland beat China 4-1 in their first Group C game yesterday afternoon, a match which included a goal inside the first 33 seconds. Brentford B defender Canice Carroll is part of the squad but was an unused substitute.
Ireland have further games against Bahrain and Mexico in the coming days – June 6 and 9 – which will decide how far they progress. There will then be further games to decide the final placings. This is a first Under-21 call-up for Canice, who joined Brentford B from Oxford United last summer and spent the second half of the season on loan at Swindon Town. He has represented his country at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level, playing 20 games in total.
