Julian Jeanvier watches on as Guinea beaten

Syli Nationale suffer 1-0 defeat at hands of Nigeria on Wednesday

27 June 2019

Julian Jeanvier was an unused substitute on Wednesday as Guinea suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Julian earned his third international cap during Saturday's 2-2 draw against Madagascar but was replaced in the starting XI for yesterday's match against The Super Eagles. Paul Put's side caused three-times winners Nigeria plenty of problems but were undone late on when Moses Simon's right-wing corner was headed in at the near post by Chelsea's Kenneth Omeruo.

Defeat leaves Guinea with one point from two matches while Nigeria's win saw them become the first side to secure their spot in the last 16. To join them, Guinea need to beat Burundi on Sunday and hope that is good enough to see them through as one of the four best third-placed sides.

The next Brentford involvement in Egypt comes tomorrow as Kamohelo Mokotjo and South Africa look to bounce back from their opening day defeat when they take on Namibia.
