Ezri an unused sub as Young Lions lose to Romania

England Under-21s knocked out of the European Championships after losing a six-goal thriller in Cesena

22 June 2019

Brentford defender Ezri Konsa was an unused substitute as England Under-21s were knocked out of the European Championships after losing a six-goal thriller against Romania.

George Puscas opened the scoring for Romania to trigger a frantic 18-minute period to conclude the game.

Demarai Gray got England back on level terms but Ianis Hagi immediately restored Romania's lead. Tammy Abraham – who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa - then equalised two minutes later.

However, with Aidy Boothroyd's side stretched and chasing a win, Florinel Coman twice scored from distance late on.

France's 1-0 victory over Croatia in the other Group C game on Friday ensured England – pointless after two games having also lost to France in their opening fixture - cannot progress.

Boothroyd's side face Croatia on Monday in their final game of the tournament.
