Millions of people across the country are avodly following the exploits of England at the Women's World Cup and the interest in women's football is rising. England reached the last four with a win over Norway last Thursday, a victory that also secured a spot for Great Britain at the 2020 Olympic football tournament in Tokoyo. England will play United States of America on Tuesday night for a chance to reach the World Cup Final for the first time ever and if there is a girl in your house now keen to get involved in football, we have something to offer.

In partnership with the FA, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust runs a new Wildcats girls’ football session in Hounslow. The free programme offers organised football sessions in a fun and engaging environment – exclusively for girls aged 5-11. The sessions will take place at Whitton Wanderers FC in Hounslow every Saturday 11am-12pm. No need to book – just turn up!

Olywn, whose six-year-old daughter Tasana has been part of our girls’ football session for two years, credits the FA-backed programme with igniting her daughter’s passion for football. She said: “She really enjoys the sessions and it’s a fantastic way to make new friends – it’s the perfect introduction to playing football.”

Olywn also believes playing football serves an important purpose, she said: “I think it is important that girls play football and it helps build their confidence and self-esteem – it also has the additional benefit of keeping her active and healthy.”

The initiative is in line with The FA’s Gameplan for Growth, with the target of doubling girls’ participation in the sport by 2020. The strategy for women’s and girls’ football at grassroots level includes initiatives alongside SSE Wildcats, such as FA Girls’ Football Week and our Premier League Kicks programme.
