This will be the first time we have faced Cambridge in more than 16 years. The last game between the teams was an LDV Vans Trophy tie in January 2003. On a cold night at Griffin Park the visitors, a fourth tier team - a level below The Bees, scored a last-minute equaliser and then won the game in extra time. The teams last met in the league in the 2001/02 season, both teams winning their home games.
The teams have met in the League Cup three times previously, with Brentford having the upper hand. The Bees won a First Round tie in 1972 before two meetings in the 1980s. The teams faced each other in the First Round in both 1984 and 1985. The Bees won the first tie 2-1 on aggregate, winning 2-0 at Griffin Park before a loss away from home. A year later it was a second leg 2-0 win that saw Brentford through 3-1 on aggregate.
Brentford reached the Third Round last season and pushed Arsenal close at The Emirates Stadium in front of almost 8,000 travelling Bees fans. A 4-2 win at Southend United in the First Round was notable for first Bees goals for Saïd Benrahma, Julian Jeanvier and Marcus Forss - the latter two on their debuts. Jeanvier scored again as Cheltenham Town were beaten a round later before we then faced Arsenal, losing 3-1 at The Emirates.
