B Team 18/19 Review: End of the campaign

Back-to-back City fixtures finish the season

2 June 2019

At the start of May we announced that Kolbeinn Finnsson, already capped by the Icelandic National Team, would be heading out on loan to Fylkir Rekjavik until July. Fullback David Titov also signed a new one-year contract with optional extension by the Club.

The final two games of the season presented a home and away fixture against Manchester City.

The first match, at Griffin Park ended in a 2-2 draw. The young Brentford side started the game superbly and Cole Dasilva scored a brilliant goal to put them in front. They probably deserved the 2-1 lead they held at half time thanks to a goal from Jan Zamburek but by the end were thankful to hang on for a draw.

The second match, a few days later, was the final one with Lars Friis as Head Coach. It ended the season with a 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Campus.

New signing Nick Tsaroulla played his first part in a Brentford B game, in the same way that Theo Archibald once did against City in 2017. Friis was able to bring Reece Cole and Canice Carroll back into the lineup after their loan spells in Sky Bet League Two.

Spencer Keller, Adrian Bernabe and Adam Aziz scored three in 34 minutes, before Cole Dasilva scored a response on the day of his 20th birthday.

B Team Post-Season

Brentford B played 44 games this season, excluding behind closed doors friendlies unreleased to the public. The team won 25 games and lost 15, scoring 104 goals while conceding 73.

Overall, 14 players have now progressed to a First Team debut, including seven this season. Mads Bech Sorensen, Marcus Forss, Nikolaj Kirk, Jan Zamburek, Patrik Gunnarsson, Luka Racic and Jaakko Oksanen made their first appearances for Brentford this season.

Two players, Jarvis Edobor and Henrik Johansson, were released from their contracts after long spells with the B Team. Departing B Team Head Coach Lars Friis said: "Both of these guys have been great ambassadors for the Club.

"Their application on the pitch and attitude in the dressing room have been spot on. They have given so much to us, and I hope they take away just as much from this experience. This is not the end of a career, it is only the start of a new chapter and I wish them all the best luck for their futures."

Lars Friis signed off his time at Brentford with an interview in the Brentford matchday programme BEES. To read the full final interview with Lars, click here.

Two awards were given out before the players left for the summer. The Mary Halder B Team Player of the Year trophy was awarded to Ali Coote. The B Team Players' Player of the Year was won by Joe Hardy.
