Republic of Ireland's U21s were defeated 2-0 by Brazil earlier today, Wednesday 12 June, and will miss out on the 2019 Maurice Ravello Tournament Final.
Canice Carroll didn't get any game time as the South American side dominated in the South of France. Goals by Paulinho and Matheus Cunha were enough to see the game off, coming either side of half-time in Aubagne. Douglas Luiz could have made it three from the penalty spot, but blasted his effort wide of the target.
Ireland now go into a third-place play-off on Saturday 15 June, a 12.30pm kick-off (UK time) in Salon-de-Provence. They'll face Mexico after they were beaten 5-4 on penalties by Japan, the score 2-2 after normal time.
U21 boss Stephen Kelly told the FAI website: 'We want to finish on a high though, this has been a fantastic tournament so far so we look forward to the Mexico game on Saturday where we'll be looking to seal third spot in the tournament'
Fans can watch the game broadcast live on Free Sports, Freeview channel 64, Sky Sports channel 422 and Virgin Media channel 553.
