Julian Jeanvier and his Guinea teammates were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations last night. The Brentford central defender and his countrymen had the tough task of taking on Algeria, one of the tournament favourites, and came off second best. Algeria progressed to the last eight with a 3-0 win as two second half goals and one before the interval saw them progress.
There was little doubt that the better team won on the night. Guinea only managed one shot on target across the 90 minutes and although they had a lot of the ball, the game was over by the hour mark. Algeria were two up by than as Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez added to a goal scored by Youcef Belaili. Adam Ounas scored the third.
Julian was not involved in the game and did not add to the three caps he has won in the past month. The defeat means that Brentford only have one player left in the Cup of Nations. Kamohelo Mokotjo and South Africa will play Nigeria on Wednesday for a place in the last four.
