Ten things you might not know about our new man

3 July 2019

Ethan Pinnock became our second summer arrival as he joined from Barnsley on Tuesday. The 26-year-old defender began his career in the non-league before moving into the EFL with The Tykes. Get to know our new man with our 10 things feature below.

  • Ethan Rupert Pinnock was born in South London on 29 May 1993
  • He is the cousin of former Gillingham, Sunderland, and Watford defender Nyron Nosworthy
  • At the age of 15, Pinnock was released by Millwall, dropping down to the Isthmian League to join Dulwich Hamlet. He made his First-Team debut in August 2010. His maiden goal came at the end of that campaign and secured Dulwich’s place in the Play-Offs.
  • Originally a winger, Pinnock was only converted to a centre-back in his early 20s after a late growth spurt.
  • His idol growing up was Ryan Giggs but that changed to Rio Ferdinand once he moved into defence.
  • During his seven-year spell with The Hamlet he made more than 200 appearances, making a clean sweep of the Player of the Year awards during his final season.
  • At 23, he jumped up to the National League with Forest Green Rovers. He spent just one season at The New Lawn helping The Green Devils to promotion into the EFL. His time there also saw him earn international honours with England C.
  • He moved on to Barnsley in the summer of 2017, making 15 appearances during his first season at Oakwell which ended in relegation.
  • Last season was Ethan’s breakthrough campaign in the EFL. He played every minute of Barnsley’s League One campaign, earning promotion in April. He helped keep an EFL high 21 clean sheets last term and was voted The Tykes Player of the Year. He also earned a spot in the EFL Third Tier Team of the Season.
  • From the seventh tier to the second tier in four years, Ethan arrives in West London with three promotions and more than 300 First-Team appearances under his belt.
