Brentford B midfield player Reece Cole has joined Sky Bet League Two Macclesfield Town on loan for the rest of the season. The 20-year-old completed the switch to the Cheshire side this morning, Friday 18 January, and will be available for them to play against Oldham Athletic tomorrow. He will link up with the Macclesfield management team which is led by former England captain Sol Campbell and includes Andy Cole, a member of Manchester United’s treble-winning squad in 1998/99.
This will be Reece’s third loan of the season and fourth overall. He started the campaign with Yeovil Town, also in League Two, and played two games for them at the start of the season before a short spell at Maidenhead United, where he made six appearances and scored once. He also spent part of last season at Newport County, playing five games and scoring the winner on his debut against Coventry City, but had to return to West London after picking up a knee injury.
Reece made his professional debut in Brentford’s Sky Bet Championship win over Nottingham Forest in 2017. He has been an unused substitute on five further occasions, including against Preston North End in the Championship in October. Macclesfield are currently in the League Two relegation zone but have only lost three of their last 11 games in all competitions. They have 18 games remaining and are three points from safety.
Lars Friis, Brentford B Head Coach, said: “This is a great opportunity for Reece to go out and get more competitive football. He will be playing high-pressure games where there is a lot at stake and that will be a benefit for his career. We will be keeping a close watch on how Reece does there and wish him all the best for the next few months.”
