Jack Bonham and Bristol Rovers are now just 90 minutes from a Wembley final after cruising past Port Vale 3-0 in the Checkatrade Trophy Quarter-Final on Tuesday night.
Ollie Clarke opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour, but the game turned in ten second-half minutes. First, Vale were reduced to ten men as Tom Conlon was shown a second yellow card with Tom Nichols making it 2-0 from the penalty spot four minutes later. Progress was wrapped up with just over 20 minutes to play, Alex Rodman getting the goal.
Graham Coughlan's side will face either Bury, Sunderland or Portsmouth in a one-leg tie for a place in the final. The draw will be made at approximately 12.45pm on Friday.
Rovers are next in action on Tuesday night, welcoming Peterborough United to the Memorial Stadium in Sky Bet League One.
Five other Bees could be in action with their loan clubs over the weekend. In the third tier, Josh Clarke’s Burton Albion host Bradford City while in Sky Bet League Two, Canice Carroll and Swindon Town host Crawley Town while Reece Cole’s Macclesfield Town travel to fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town.
The National League action sees tough away trips for both Justin Shaibu and Jarvis Edobor with Boreham Wood and Maidstone United. The Wood make the long trip to Play-Off chasing Gateshead while Maidstone visit top-of-the-table Leyton Orient.
