Josh Clarke has joined Carabao Cup Semi-Finalists Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season. The versatile 23-year-old joined up with the Sky Bet League One side today, Friday 11 January, ahead of their home game against Gillingham tomorrow. He will be available for the 20 league games The Brewers have remaining this season but will not be eligible for their Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg against Manchester City as he is cup-tied.
Josh has been with The Bees since 2011 and made his league debut in April 2014, having previously played in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and Capital One Cup. It was following a successful loan spell with Barnet in late 2015 that Josh broke into The Bees First Team, making eight appearances at the end of the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
The speedy right-sided player followed that up with 32 appearances, and his first Brentford goals, the following season before playing the same number of games again last term. This season Josh has been restricted to three appearances, two in the Carabao Cup and one in the Sky Bet Championship, as he closes in on 100 games in professional football.
Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “We have strong competition for places in the full back and wing back position and that has restricted the opportunities for Josh this season. He has continued to work hard and train well and has done all he can to earn a place in the team. When an offer came in to take him on loan, we felt this would be best for him, he can go and play games at a good level at a team that can still push towards the League One Play-Offs. We will keep an eye on how he does and welcome him back for the start of next season.”
