Match Preview: Millwall vs Brentford

All the info ahead of tomorrow's trip to The Den

28 December 2019

A decade that began with us 11th in Sky Bet League One could end with us third in the Sky Bet Championship as we head to Millwall tomorrow for our final action of the 2010s. Below you will find all the info ahead of our trip to The Den.

  • Millwall have won just once in their last nine league matches against us (D4 L4), a 1-0 win in March 2018.
  • We are looking to achieve a league double over Millwall for the first time since the 1981-82 campaign.
  • Millwall lost their most recent home game in the Championship (1-2 v Barnsley), while they haven't suffered back-to-back league defeats at The Den since March.
  • We are winless in our last three Championship away games (D1 L2), after winning three in a row prior to this run.
  • Jed Wallace has scored (4) and assisted (4) more Championship goals than any other Millwall player at The Den this season.
  • Ollie Watkins has netted six away goals for Brentford in the Championship this season, three times as many as he scored in the whole of last season (two away goals).

Under new boss Gary Rowett, Millwall have begun a steady climb up the Sky Bet Championship table to head into tomorrow's game inside the top-half, five points off the Play-Off places.

The faithful at The Den eventually grew tired of Neil Harris' attritional style of play, leading to his resignation in early October with The Lions 18th in the table. Rowett was brought in later that month and began his tenure in SE16 with just one defeat from his opening ten games.

That run included victories over Charlton Athletic, Bristol City, and Swansea City as any relegation thoughts were well and truly put behind them. Despite its fearsome reputation, Millwall's recent form at The Den hasn't been the best. They've won just twice in front of their own fans under Rowett and were beaten 2-1 at home by Barnsley last time out.

The Lions' star-man this season has been Jed Wallace (pictured above). The attacking midfielder has hit the headlines with a number of eye-catching goals in recent weeks. His unstoppable free-kick earned The Lions a point at Cardiff City on Boxing Day as he took his tally to nine for the campaign.

Gary Rowett took over at Millwall in October, ten months after an abortive spell with Stoke City came to an end. His 16-year player career saw him make appearances for Everton, Derby County, Leicester City and Cambridge United. He stepped into management after a spell with Burton Albion.

Rowett took Burton to the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs in both of his first two full seasons with The Brewers. He then moved to St Andrew's to rescue The Blues from relegation in the 2014/15 season. Coming in with them in the bottom four, he took them to tenth before repeating that finish a year later. After leaving Birmingham in 2016, he had spells with Derby County and The Potters before pitching up at The Den.

Pontus Jansson returned against Swansea City on Boxing Day meaning that Thomas has a full squad to pick from aside from Josh Clarke, Sergi Canos, and Nikos Karelis.

For Millwall, Frank Fielding (quad muscle) is missing as are Ben Thompson (ankle) and Ryan Leonard (ribs). Murray Wallace returned to the bench for the Boxing Day draw at Cardiff following illness and will be pushing for a recall.
