Match Report and Match Action: Harrow Borough 1 Brentford B 7

Mogensen hat trick helps The Bees progress in the London Senior Cup

5 December 2019

Brentford B progressed to the next round of the London Senior Cup with an impressive 7-1 victory over Harrow Borough.

A hat-trick from Gustav Mogensen as well as goals from Joe Adams (2), Arthur Read and Jaden Brissett did the damage at Earlsmead as Neil MacFarlane’s side continued their impressive run of form.

The first attempt of the match fell inside two minutes when Jaakko Oksanen was immediately closed down by George Moore who won the ball fairly before shooting wide from the edge of the Brentford box.

Despite The Bees looking dangerous on the counterattack through the likes of Dru Yearwood and Gustav Mogensen, it was Moore who would have another attempt for the home side when he drove into the box from the left before seeing his low attempt pushed wide of goal by Nathan Shepperd.

Adams would have Brentford’s first real attempt of the match just after the 20-minute mark when they did well down the left-hand side before the winger was played into a bit of space and unleashed a powerful effort which was bravely stopped by George Fenton. The resulting corner then saw Kane O’Connor head the ball back into the danger area as Brissett’s improvised back heel was well cleared in the six-yard area.

Brissett would then go close again when the ball was cleared by the keeper, but a miskick saw the ball find its way to the forward who chipped a delicate effort over the Boro keeper, but the onrushing defender managed to head over.

It was from the resulting set piece that the young Bees would go ahead when Mogensen’s powerful effort was well blocked before Adams managed to nip in and flick the ball home to make it 1-0.

Less than a minute later MacFarlane’s side would double their lead in excellent fashion as Read found the ball centrally before driving forwards and unleashing a powerful left footed drive into the bottom right-hand corner.

It would be 3-0 on 39 minutes as Brissett deservedly got himself on the scoresheet after The Bees won the ball back high before the ball found its way out to the right for the youngster to thump an effort home low into the far corner.

As Brentford continued to assert their dominance, they almost made it four on the cusp of half-time when, once again, they looked dangerous from a corner. Aubrel Koutsimouka managed to rise well before the ball dropped kindly for him but his effort lacked conviction as the Boro keeper collected.

The young Bees would continue where they left off from the first half as their dominance saw to another goal as they made it 4-0 when Brissett played a superb first-time ball through for Mogensen, who rounded the keeper, and slotted the ball home.

But the home side would get themselves on the scoresheet on 64 minutes when a corner was whipped in dangerously from the left and Michael Bryan managed to force the ball home despite the best efforts of Shepperd who was unable to push the ball away in time.

On 70 minutes The Bees would gain their fifth of the night when Mitchell played it out to the left for Nick Tsaroulla who played in Mogensen over the top to beat the offside trap before the Dane ran though on goal and slotted home calmly.

Just a couple of minutes later Mogensen would have his hat-trick as Brentford made it 6-1 from the penalty spot after Tsaroulla had done brilliantly to burst into the box before being brought down in the area, and once again the forward finished with confidence.

On 75 minutes MacFarlane’s side would be awarded another penalty when David Titov’s effort was handballed on the line leaving the referee with little option but to point to the spot, and this time Adams stepped up to convert with precision as he claimed his second of the evening to make it 7-1.

It was all Brentford and Mogensen then went inches from a fourth when Mogensen was once again found in behind before he turned to hit a half volley which cannoned off the crossbar with the match finishing 7-1.
