A goal in either half from the Hibs man took the game away from the young Bees who had a number of chances to find the net throughout the match.

Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane named a strong side at Bedfont Sports Club with five members of Thomas Frank’s first team included in the starting XI as they look to ensure players are given game time ahead of a busy Christmas schedule.

Brentford dominated the opening exchanges with Jan Žambůrek looking lively as he looked to bring others into play with Dom Thompson and Mads Roerslev looking to charge down both wings.

The first real attempt came just after the quarter of an hour mark when Jaakko Oksanen saw his left footed effort pushed away by Patrick Martin. Fredrik Hammar then popped up to fire the rebound just over the bar before the offside flag was raised.

Shortly after that Gustav Mogensen almost prospered when he pounced on a loose ball to go one-v-one with the Hibs keeper, but credit to the shot stopper, who blocked the ball well.

10 minutes later the Scottish side would be in front as a low bouncing ball from the right saw Shaw find space in between the defenders before he guided a clever header into the back of the net.

A late effort in the first half from Oksanen then saw Martin save well to prevent the Bees from levelling just before the break.

It would get worse for Neil MacFarlane’s side just after the break when Hibs doubled their lead. A ball over the top saw Luka Racic and Patrik Gunnarsson miscommunicate as they failed to clear which left Shaw to bravely nip in and help the ball goalwards for 2-0.

Content with their lead, Hibs were happy for Brentford to have possession as they looked to counterattack and protect their lead.

The lively Joe Adams looked dangerous throughout as he looked to create for The Bees, but after his low cross was turned away well, the away side almost went 3-0 up when the ball found its way to Ryan Shanley at the far post and his powerful effort was saved terrifically by Gunnarsson.

A chance would then fall for Hammar again after the ball was crossed in from the left, but despite his powerful effort, he was unable to convert the chance.

Despite the Bees pushing for an equaliser with dangerous crosses they were unable to create enough clear-cut attempts at Martin’s goal as they were made to settle for a 2-0 defeat.
