Match Preview: Brentford B v Huddersfield Reserves

A look ahead to Brentford B's final match of 2019

19 December 2019

Brentford B will play their final match of 2019 when they meet Huddersfield Reserves at Bedfont Sports Club on Friday in a 12pm kick-off.

It will be the second match of the week for the young Bees, who will have a short break over the Christmas period before returning to action in early January 2020.

Neil MacFarlane’s side will go into the match following a 2-0 defeat against Hibernian Reserves on Tuesday and they will be looking to go out on a high as they come up against a talented Huddersfield Town side.

Brentford B Coach Sam Saunders will be looking for the side to turn out a more clinical display following the defeat earlier in the week in which the young Bees had a number of chances to get on the scoresheet on the day.

Speaking after the defeat to Hibs, Sam said: “I thought our attitude was good and I felt that we tried to play. It was a good learning curve and as a B Team we want games that are going to be as close to men’s football as possible and I certainly think that was the case.

“We work every day on the training ground to get ourselves into good positions and then once you’re in those positions it’s down to the player to have the composure and the quality to finish off the good work that led up to it.”

It has been a busy period for the young Bees leading up to the Christmas break with eight games already played since the beginning of November which precede the final match of the year against The Terriers.

The side have picked up wins against a whole host of different opponents in recent weeks, and they’ve also endured two trips north of the border, beating Celtic Reserves before falling to defeat against a Rangers XI. Matches have also seen Brentford B take on teams from Spain, Switzerland and England, all of varying ages and playing styles.

As for Friday’s opponents, Huddersfield have had some positive results of late as they travelled to Blackpool Reserves to pick up a 4-3 win before beating Rotherham United’s Reserves 3-2. They recently hosted Fleetwood Town reserves in what was a 1-1 draw which means they sit top of their Central League table with 10 points from four matches played.
