Halil Dervişoğlu marked his final appearance for Sparta Rotterdam with a goal as he gets set to become a Brentford player in the New Year.
The 20-year-old struck from the spot for his fifth of the season as Sparta Rotterdam went into the winter break on the back of a 3-0 win over second-placed AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie. AZ were reduced to ten men after just five minutes with Sparta taking full advantage to lead 2-0 at the break. Halil added a third just before the hour for his final contribution in the red and white of Sparta. Halil will head to TW8 having contributed 16 goals and 12 assists in 58 appearances for Sparta.
Elsewhere it was thin gruel for the other Bees away from Griffin Park. Aside from Justin Shaibu helping Boreham Wood to a 2-1 victory over Harrogate, which moved The Wood into the National League Play-Offs, there were defeats all round.
Reece Cole and Marcus Forss both played the full 90 minutes in a pair of 1-0 defeats for Partick Thistle and AFC Wimbledon respectively. The Jags dropped to ninth in the Scottish Championship following their loss at home to Dundee while The Dons' remain 19th in Sky Bet League One after losing at Tranmere Rovers.
Canice Carroll was an unused substitute as Carlisle United's struggles continued with a 3-0 reverse at Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two while Jayden Onen and Jaden Brissett sat out defeats for Bromley and Maidenhead United in the National League.
