Kwame Thomas netted for the visitors on 12 minutes, but a Forss-inspired Dons hit back after the break. Marcus notched his tenth of the season from the spot to make it 1-1 before teeing up Callum Reilly for the winner 20 minutes from time. AFC have a chance to put further clear water between them and the bottom four when they travel to 20th-placed Tranmere Rovers next Saturday.

Also enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment is Reece Cole. The 21-year-old registered an assist on Saturday as Partick Thistle climbed out of the Scottish Championship relegation places with a 3-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle. After scoring four goals in his last five games, form which saw him named Partick’s Player of the Month for November, Reece set up Alex Jones for The Jags’ second-half opener at Firhill. James Keatings levelled but Steven Saunders and Dario Zanatta netted late on to make it back-to-back league wins. Partick will go for three in a row next Saturday when they host fifth-placed Dundee.

In Europe, Emiliano Marcondes played an hour as FC Midtjylland’s eight-match winning run in the Danish Superliga came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at home to AGF. Awer Mabil gave FCM the half-time advantage but the visitors struck three times in eight minutes at the start of the second period to take the points. FCM remain clear at the top heading into the two-month winter break. Emiliano’s time back in Denmark has seen him score twice, with two assists, in 12 outings.

Halil Dervişoğlu played the full 90 minutes but couldn’t prevent Sparta Rotterdam falling to a 2-0 defeat on the road at FC Emmen. Both the hosts goals came from the spot in the opening half-hour; Sergio Pena and Michael de Leeuw the men on target. Defeat leaves Sparta in 11th ahead of Wednesday’s KNVB Cup Second Round tie at Willem II.

In Sky Bet League Two, Canice Carroll played the first-half of Carlisle United’s drab 0-0 draw at home to Grimsby Town. The 90 minutes saw the two sides muster just four shots on target between them, leaving The Cumbrians 21st in the table, six points above the drop zone. Carlisle make the long trip south this weekend to face Colchester United.

It wasn’t a good day for our three other loanees in the FA Trophy. Justin Shaibu played 85 minutes as Boreham Wood were dumped out by Royston Town while Jayden Onen was an injury-time substitute for Bromley during their defeat at Dorking Wanderers. Maidenhead United made it past Hemel Hempstead 4-2 with Jaden Brissett not in the matchday squad.

Back in the National League on Saturday, Boreham Wood host Harrogate Town, Maidenhead United welcome Barnet to York Road, and Bromley entertain Eastleigh.
