🗣 Jonny Mitchell: “We had a lot of chances and we could have been a bit more clinical"

Jonny Mitchell discusses Jersey Road draw

8 December 2019

Brentford B midfielder Jonny Mitchell says the side can take positives from their 1-1 draw with Grasshopper Club Zürich Under-21s.

Jaden Brissett’s penalty cancelled out an early Zurich strike to earn the draw, and whilst both sides had chances, neither were able to take advantage.

Speaking after the result, Jonny said: “I thought it was a good game and they were a very good side. I felt we dealt with it really well, in the first half we were pretty good, but I felt in the second half we lacked a bit of quality. 1-1 is a fair result, we could have sneaked it at the end with our goal which I’m not sure if it was offside, but I think it was a good team performance.

“We had a lot of chances and we could have been a bit more clinical, but I thought they defended well and put in some strong tackle. They were a very physical side and they made it difficult for us.”

The Scot was also pleased to get 90 minutes under his belt as competition for places in the Brentford B side increases.

He continued: “In the first half I felt good, but I think not playing in a while kind of caught up with me a bit. I think my quality went a bit on the ball, but I feel good to get 90 minutes in the tank again, so I’m pleased.

“We all work together; we’re doing really well this season. We’re putting in the work in training every day and you can tell that we’re taking that into games. We’re really sharp and everyone is giving it their all, and I think that if we continue to work really well as a team then that will help us in the next games as well.”

Brentford B now set their sights on a trip to Scotland where they take on Rangers Under 20 next Tuesday, and it’s another game where Neil MacFarlane’s side will look to continue their positive momentum.

Jonny said: “It will be a tough game; it could be the toughest game that we’ve played in Scotland. I think we’re going into it in a good spell of form with a few wins and a draw, we’ve been playing well leading up to it.”
