Last week, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust teamed up with Tullow Oil to take part in a plastic clear up along the River Thames. The initiative saw 12 members of staff collect more than 60kg of litter along Kew Bridge. Tullow Oil which has been working closely with the Trust on its community initiatives, were involved in the event as part of the charity week campaign.

Since April 2018, the Trust is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, demonstrating that we are aware, as an organisation, of the current global needs and that we are actively showing the different ways we are helping to achieve each SDG. The litter clear up initiative had the main objective of promoting Goals 12, 13, 14 and 15, with the focus of raising awareness about litter waste and to promote initiatives to help tackling this issue. More information about the UN sustainable goals can be found here.

Tomas Abreu, Marketing and Partnerships Manager, said: ‘’It was important for us to join forces with Tullow Oil. We were able to provide a positive teambuilding experience for all those involved in the initiative. We are actively looking for creative ways of partnering with different stakeholders – continuing to provide unique partnerships experiences’’

Tony Griffiths, who works at Tullow Oil, said: “I’m pleased that the Trust were able to help us out with a tailored volunteering event to support our Charity Week this year. Spending a couple of hours cleaning along the historic Thames was a valuable chance for some team-building. I’m grateful to Tomas and the Trust staff for making this event happen!”

The clear up took part near Brentford’s boating arch, which in 2007 brought together Ealing Council, St George West London, London Marathon, The Veolia Environmental Trust and Landfill Communities Fund to create a sporting hub that would connect with local schools, community groups and businesses. Now, in 2019, the Boating Arch offers a multitude of watersport activities for the local community including kayaking, paddelboarding and rowing.
