Brentford captain Pontus Jansson will be away on international duty next month. The powerful central defender, who joined The Bees from Leeds United in early July, has been named in the latest Sweden squad. The Swedes play two UEFA European Championship 2020 Qualification matches and Pontus is part of a 24-man squad.

Sweden will play Faroe Islands away form home on Thursday 5 September before hosting Norway for a Scandinavian derby on Sunday 8 September. Sweden are in Group F of the European Championship qualifiers. They have played four games so far and have won two of them. Spain lead the group and the top two will play in the finals, held across Europe next month. If Sweden do not make the top two, they will have a Play-Off to qualify for the tournament due to their performances in the UEFA Nations League 2018/19.

Pontus has earned 22 caps for his country and has captained Sweden in the past year. He was part of the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and played in the Quarter Final defeat to England. He started for Sweden in their recent UEFA Euro 2020 qualification matches against Malta and Spain. Pontus also played for his country at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level.
