MATCH FACTS

THE OPPOSITION

Charlton had a season to remember on the pitch last season, despite a troubled year off it. Winning nine of their final 11 games set Charlton apart from the competiton. While giants like Sunderland failed to click into gear in the final months, The Addicks were flying.

The Play-Offs weren't smooth sailing either, with Doncaster Rovers beaten on penalties at The Valley. The Final itself saw the team come from behind to beat Sunderland after a bizarre own goal in the opening minutes. Ben Purrington levelled and then Patrik Bauer netted a last-second winner. Charlton are back in the Championship after only three years away.

They have kicked off the season with wins over Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City and draws with Barnsley and Nottingham Forest. The Addicks did, however, lose a Carabao Cup First Round tie to Forest Green Rovers on penalties.

THE MANAGER

Lee Bowyer is a former professional footballer who made over 600 appearances in English football. Born in Canning Town, London, he joined Charlton as a schoolboy. He went on to play for teams including Leeds United, West Ham and Newcastle. He was also capped by England in 2002 under Sven Goran Eriksson, playing against Portugal in his only appearance.

At his peak, he played a key role in Leeds' Champions League campaign in 2001, scoring goals against AC Milan, Barcelona and Anderlecht. At his worst, he was involved in a fight with Magpies teammate Kieron Dyer on the pitch against Aston Villa in 2005.

Spells at Birmingham City lead to a final bow at Ipswich Town, where he retired in 2012. Three years later, Bowyer was back coaching at Watford before joining the youth setup at Charlton. In 2017, he was named Assistant Manager under Karl Robinson, eventually going on to take the top job in March 2018.

TEAM NEWS

Brentford are awaiting international clearance for new striker Nikos Karelis and he could be involved if that arrives in time. Kamohelo Mokotjo could also be available after playing for Brentford B in the draw against West Ham United Under-23 on Tuesday night. There are no new injury concerns.

Charlton are again expected to be without defender Chris Solly after he suffered a head injury during their game at Barnsley and will continue to be monitored under concussion protocol. Midfielder Beram Kayal and left-back Lewis Page may also miss out.
