THE OPPOSITION

Cambridge United head into tonight's game 18th in the fourth tier after back-to-back goalless draws to begin the season. An opening day stalemate on the road at Bradford City was followed up by another nil-nil at home to Newport County on Saturday.

The United squad boasts a blend of youth and experience with experienced strikers Marc Richards and Jabo Ibehre, who have just shy of 350 competitive goals between them, joining the likes of George Maris, Dimitar Mitov, and Andrew Dallas in the group.

THE MANAGER

Colin Calderwood is heading into his first full season in charge at The Abbey Stadium, having taken over in December. A defender with more than 630 league appearances, most notably for Swindon Town and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as 36 Scotland caps, Calderwood's first taste of management came with Northampton Town in 2003. He's also had spells as manager at Nottingham Forest and Hibernian, alongside coaching roles with the likes of Newcastle United, Norwich City, and Aston Villa.

TEAM NEWS

Thomas Frank has hinted at full debuts for the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Dru Yearwood, and Joel Valencia after the trio were named as substitutes for Saturday's win over Middlesbrough. Ethan Pinnock limped off late on over the weekend and is unlikely to be risked as The Bees look for a place in Round Two.

For Cambridge, Kyle Knoyle is likely to miss out after picking up a shoulder injury on Saturday but Louis John and Harvey Knibbs will feature for the first time this campaign. Striker Sam Smith will be rested, however, owing to a groin strain while Gary Deegan and Liam O’Neil also won’t play due to illness and injury, respectively.
