On Saturday we started counting down to the final game at Griffin Park with the launch of a special display which will be updated at each remaining Sky Bet Championship match at Griffin Park.  The Farewell to Griffin Park countdown started with ‘23 Games to Go’ but the number was changed to 22 at half-time in the game against Birmingham.

The man who made that first change was Brian Burgess who was nominated by the Brentford Supporters' Trust Bees United.

Brian was one of the original members of Bees United, the fans group who took over the club in 2006 when it was in financial trouble. Bees United then refinanced the club and Brian helped pave the way for the initial involvement of current owner Matthew Benham. Brian also spent 15 years in voluntary and paid work on the Brentford Community Stadium project. The countdown to Lionel Road is a very special one for Brian.

Brian said: "It’s really exciting to see the new stadium taking shape and to think that this time next year we will be looking forward to our first league match at Brentford Community Stadium. It will be a historic start to a new era of progress for the Club. It would never have been possible without the early work of Bees United including John McGlashan, my predecessor as Chair of BU, and so many committed members of the trust."

Membership of Bees United is free to all season-ticket holders and members and if you want to receive the monthly BU newsletter please email [email protected].
