Brentford B were beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth on Thursday afternoon at Canford Park Arena. Jaden Brissett scored a penalty in the first half as the home side had three different scorers to thank for the win.
After three minutes, The Bees should have taken the lead. Matej Majka raced clear after taking advantage of a quick free-kick, but his finish wasn’t enough to beat goalkeeper Will Dennis.
With 10 minutes gone, the hosts opened the scoring with a set piece. A deep corner from Tom Dinsmore into the middle found Alex Dobre unmarked and he headed it beyond Patrik Gunnarsson from a few yards out.
After 21 minutes, The Cherries added a second. David Titov was missing with an ankle injury that would see him subbed a few moments later, and the 10-man side were left exposed. The extra space on the edge of the box allowed the home captain Nnamdi Ofoborh to drive the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
With Mads Roerslev Rasmussen now on the right, Nick Tsaroulla lit up the opposite flank. Driving with the ball, then playing a neat one-two with Majka, he arrived in the box. Charlie Seaman didn’t get across in time and was clumsy in the challenge, Tsaroulla hitting the deck and the referee blew for a penalty.
The spot-kick was placed into the bottom corner by Brissett.
Just before half-time, Bournemouth looked like they would grab a third from open play. Cutting inside, Tyrell Hamilton curled the ball towards the top corner but Gunnarsson did brilliantly to palm the ball over the top at full stretch.
After the break, the hosts almost extended their advantage from distance. The ball looping out of the box after a clearance from Roerslev, Dinsmore volleyed it at the target. The ball smashed the right post and bounced clear.
Just before the hour, Bournemouth made it 3-1. Hamilton robbed the Brentford defence of the ball, then rounded Gunnarsson before rolling the ball into an empty net.
After 30 minutes in the second half, Jaakko Oksanen played a ball over the top of the box. It missed defender Corey Jordan and found Joe Adams. The winger controlled it but his shot was blocked by Dennis who flew out of his goal.
Next, Adams had another go after good play from Tsaroulla. Receiving the ball on the left, he cut inside and struck the ball at goal. It narrowly missed the top right corner.
Despite a much better second half performance, The Bees couldn’t get back on to the score sheet and it ended 3-1.
