The form of Brentford attacker Ollie Watkins in the first month of the season was not enough to win him the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for August. Ollie was nominated for the prize but was not selected as the winner. Instead the award went to Kemar Roofe of Leeds United.
Brentford played five Championship games in August, winning two of them and drawing two more. Ollie started all five of those games and had a big impact. He scored in the first three – in wins over Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday and in the draw at Stoke City. He then contributed two assists as Brentford drew with Aston Villa. Ollie also scored as Brentford beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 1 September, in a match that did not count for the award. Roofe got four goals and contributed two assists as Leeds took 13 points from their five games.
