The form of Brentford attacker Ollie Watkins in the first month of the season has earned him special recognition. Ollie has this morning, Thursday 6 September, been announced as a nominee for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for August. The winner will be announced at 6am tomorrow.
Brentford played five Championship games in August, winning two of them and drawing two more. Ollie started all five of those games and had a big impact. He scored in the first three – in wins over Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday and in the draw at Stoke City. He then contributed two assists as Brentford drew with Aston Villa. Ollie also scored as Brentford beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 1 September, in a match that did not count for the award.
Ollie has been nominated alongside Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe and Andreas Weimann of Bristol City. A judging panel comprising Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL Trader Mikey Mumford will decide the winner.
