Ollie Watkins has missed out on the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month Award for August. The Brentford attacker grabbed three goals in the month and his one against Stoke City was chosen as one of the top three in the league last month. But it didn't win the vote for the prize.
A goal scored by Barry Bannan, of Sheffield Wednesday, took the prize after a fan poll. The shortlist for the poll is decided by a judging panel following suggestions from supporters via Twitter. The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; Sky Bet Sponsorship Manager Michael Holinski and EFL Senior Media Manager Rob Meaden.
The goal, which earned The Bees a 1-1 draw and can be seen below, was selected by the panel but did not earn enough votes to take the prize. Bannan received 63 per cent of the public vote and that beat Watkins to the prize. Fans decided that the strike by Bannan was better than Watkins which involved nine players, 13 passes and the length of the field.
