Neal Maupay crowned Championship Player of the Month

Striker takes gong after scintillating August form

3 September 2018

Neal Maupay's performances in August have seen him take the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award with online statistics website

The Bees' French striker finished the month with five goals and three assists from just four games. The 22-year-old netted twice, and contributed an assist, during our opening day rout of Rotherham United before setting up Ollie Watkins for the equaliser against Stoke City the following weekend.

Neal was involved in both goals during our home win over Sheffield Wednesday, netting one and again teeing up Watkins for the other, before scoring twice in front of the Sky cameras as we drew 2-2 against Aston Villa at Villa Park. An off-the-ball incident during that game saw the Frenchman pick up a three game suspension but despite that he still ended the month as the second tier's top marksman.

Neal's write-up on the website reads as: "Brentford hitman Neal Maupay is the Championship player of the month for August, securing a rating of 8.25 over four league appearances last month.

The Frenchman was in red hot form in front of goal but also a hugely effective link man in attack for the free-scoring Bees. Maupay had a direct hand in eight goals for his side and shares the lead in the entire division for both goals (five) and assists (three), having also hit the target with nine of his 13 shots thus far."
