Match Preview: Derby County

Dean Smith's side travel to Pride Park tomorrow

21 September 2018

Derby look like a completely different outfit under new boss Frank Lampard, with youth signings and a new tactical approach to games. Fans will be hoping this fresh blood will be able to push Derby into the top six and finally secure promotion after a decade away from the top flight.

The only goalscorer to remain at the Club since Derby's 3-0 win over The Bees in February is Tom Huddlestone. Both Matej Vydra (Burnley) and Cameron Jerome (Goztepe) moved on over the summer. They were joined at the exit by Andy Weimann (Bristol City) and Chris Martin (Hull City, loan).

Two new additions from Chelsea's youth ranks were Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori. Harry Wilson also joined from Liverpool, boosting the young talent in the dressing room. George Evans (Reading), Martyn Waghorn (Ipswich Town) and Florian Jozefzoon (Brentford) were among the Championship recruits during July and August.

The team news is once again that Rico Henry, Emiliano Marcondes and now Marcus Forss are the only players not available to Dean Smith. Moses Odubajo completed his first 90 minutes for the B Team earlier this week and could be close to a return.

For The Rams, Curtis Davis is still missing with a hamstring injury while George Evans will be absent with a knee problem. Tom Lawrence is unavailable, serving the second of a three-match ban.

Frank Lampard played in midfield throughout his career for West Ham United, Chelsea, Manchester City and New York City FC. Three-time Chelsea Player of the Year, he racked up over 400 appearances for The Blues during a 14-year spell in West London.

Capped 106 times by England, he scored 29 goals at international level and represented England at a handful of major tournaments. He stepped in management for the first time at the beginning of this season, having taken up football pundit work for both BT Sport and the BBC.
