Loan Round-Up: Justin Shaibu opens account for Boreham Wood

Bees striker on target as Wood record big win on Tuesday

21 September 2018

Justin Shaibu netted the first goal of his loan spell at Boreham Wood on Tuesday night during The Wood’s 4-0 win over Sutton United.

Luke Garrard’s men were at it from the off and found themselves two goals to the good inside six minutes at Gander Green Lane; Angelo Balanta and Keiran Murtagh the men on target. Justin got in on the scoring act midway through the half, bursting through the middle and slotting past the helpless Jamie Butler in the home goal. Josh Umerah then added a fourth early on in the second-half as The Wood climbed above their hosts and into the National League Play-Off places. Former Arsenal keeper Ryan Huddart kept Ellery Balcombe out of the Hertfordshire club's starting XI once more with high-flying Salford City next up on Saturday.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Ryan Woods, who celebrated the birth of a baby daughter overnight yesterday, made his home debut for Stoke City on Tuesday night as they beat Swansea City 1-0 at The Bet365 Stadium. The only goal of the game came on the hour as Tom Ince’s shot deflected into the path of Joe Allen to convert against his former club. The three points see Stoke climb to 17th in the table before hosting Blackburn Rovers tomorrow afternoon.

Also on Tuesday, Jack Bonham kept a second clean sheet in three games for Bristol Rovers as The Gas started their Checkatrade Trophy campaign with a 2-0 win over West Ham United’s Under-21s. After a couple of busy outings to begin life at The Memorial Stadium, it was a quieter night for Jack as Rovers' win came courtesy of goals from Alex Jakubiak and Tom Lockyer. Darrell Clarke’s side return to Sky Bet League One action tomorrow when Coventry City make the trip South-West down the M5.

On Saturday, two of our Sky Bet League Two loan players could go head to head at St James Park as Chiedozie Ogbene and Exeter City host Tom Field’s Cheltenham Town. Also in the Fourth Tier, Forest Green Rovers welcome Crawley Town to The New Lawn with Theo Archibald looking to add to his six appearances for The Green Devils so far.
