Marcus Forss earned his maiden Finland’s Under-21s cap last night as they suffered a UEFA Under-21 European Championship qualifying defeat to Denmark in Aalborg.
The 19-year-old was originally named on the bench for last night’s game but an injury in the warm-up to Dundee’s Benjamin Källman saw Marcus drafted in. The Finns competed well in the opening exchanges knowing that only a win would realistically keep their hopes of making the latter stages of qualifying alive.
However, it was the home side who opened the scoring on 25 minutes; Mikkel Duelund the man to break the deadlock. Finland continued to put their hosts under pressure during the second-half and it took until the fourth minute of injury-time for Denmark to make the game safe with a second through Andreas Skov Olsen.
Marcus led the line for the full 90 minutes, earning his 17th cap at youth level for his nation. The result leaves The Finns six points off Tuesday’s opponents Poland with just three games left in qualifying.
