With the First-Team not in action this weekend, Brentford Womens Development Team's Cup trip to Westside LFC took precedence on Sunday.
Without a point in the Greater London Women's Football League Division Two North so far this season, the Development Team travelled to Roehampton Fields yesterday to take on Westside LFC hoping that the cup would provide some solace after their tough start to the league campaign.
Their opponents from a division below came into the game full of confidence on the back of three straight league wins and started the brighter on a crisp autumn afternoon. However, as the game went on The Bees began to gain a foothold and started to display some of the football which had seen them romp to promotion last term.
Neither side could find a way through in the opening 45 minutes and the story remained the same after the interval as the game looked destined to head for extra-time. That was until the home side were awarded an 89th minute free-kick which was dispatched to deal The Bees the harshest of late defeats.
Both sides are in action again next Sunday with the First-Team looking to build on last week's win over Luton Town when they host Clapham United WFC at Bedfont Sports, kick-off 2.30pm, while the Development Team travel to Headstone Manor Recreation Ground to take on Headstone Manor LFC, kick-off 1pm.
