It was another pointless afternoon for Brentford Women’s FC as both teams suffered defeats in the Greater London Women’s Football League on Sunday.
Things started well for the First-Team away at Hampton and Richmond Borough Ladies as Laura Palfrey converted a Sophie Lee cross from close range inside ten minutes. However, as has all too often been the case this season, The Bees conceded not once, but twice, in quick succession to hand The Beavers the initiative.
Katie Foster scored the first with a long-range free-kick before a flick on, almost directly from the resulting kick-off, saw Stacey Johnson race through and slot home. Foster clearly had her eye in as she grabbed a second before the break with an outrageous free-kick from all of 40 yards.
Jenn Amols Brett came close to pulling one back after the break but saw her free-kick deflect off a post. That was a rare opportunity for The Bees as the home side extended their lead through Johnson on the hour. It could have been an even more convincing afternoon for Hampton were it not for Emily Boycott who made a number of fine saves late on to keep the hosts at bay.
Justin Ali and Nathan Mobey’s side will be looking for better next Sunday as they make the long-trip to second-from-bottom Luton Town Development.
Life in Division Two North continues to be a struggle for the Development Team after they lost 6-0 to high-flying Enfield Town Ladies Reserves at Bedfont Sports. Robyn Ami Brown scored twice with Laura Elias, Natalie Howard, Molly Norman, and Leyla Yahioglu also on target as The Bees suffered a sixth straight defeat at the start of the campaign.
It looks set to be another tough assignment this weekend as Will Bithing’s side head to Hackney Marshes to take on an AFC Stoke Newington side who have taken 12 points from their opening six games.
