Justin Shaibu netted his second of the season for Boreham Wood, helping the Hertfordshire club to a 3-1 victory over Maidenhead United on Saturday.
The game was delicately poised at 2-1 when the 20-year-old came off the bench with seven minutes to play. And he needed just two minutes to make an impact, backheeling home from close range as The Wood ended a five-match winless run in the National League. Ellery Balcombe was not involved following his England Under-20 call-up with Boreham Wood in Emirates FA Cup action next Saturday at home to Dagenham and Redbridge.
Jack Bonham impressed again despite Bristol Rovers going down to a late defeat away at Burton Albion on Saturday. The game at The Pirelli Stadium looked to be heading for a goalless draw, Jack making one fine first-half save to deny Kyle McFadzean, as the clock ticked past 90. However, the home side took what, on balance, was probably a deserved three points as Ben Fox swept home from close range. Defeat sees Darrell Clarke’s side drop back into the Sky Bet League One bottom four ahead of their home game against fellow strugglers Oxford United next weekend.
In Sky Bet League Two, Chiedozie Ogbene played four minutes for Exeter City as they beat Swindon Town 2-0 at St James Park. Jonathan Forte and Jayden Stockley netted either side of the break as The Grecians took the points. Chiedozie was forced off shortly after coming on as Exeter look forward to Saturday’s trip to Grimsby Town.
Elsewhere, Theo Archibald was an unused substitute as Forest Green Rovers conceded a 97th minute winner away at Northampton Town. Former Bee Aaron Pierre cancelled out Reuben Reid’s opener for Rovers before Andy Williams took the points deep into stoppage time. Theo could line-up against fellow Bee Tom Field next Saturday in “El Glosico” as Cheltenham Town head to the New Lawn.
Ryan Woods and Stoke City will also return to action following the international break on Saturday as The Potters welcome Birmingham City to the Bet 365 Stadium.
