Ezri Konsa nets first England goal in qualifying rout

Young Lions book spot at next summer's European Championships

12 October 2018

It was a dream night for Ezri Konsa and England’s Under-21s as Aidy Boothroyd’s side secured their place at next summer’s European Championships in Italy with a 7-0 victory over Andorra at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium.

Ademola Lookman struck early on before Ezri netted his first in England colours, firing home a sweet left-footed volley from a tight angle. Lookman then squared for Everton teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin to make it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time.

Ezri, who has played 90 minutes in all-but one of our Sky Bet Championship fixtures this term, was involved in England’s fourth, winning the penalty which Calvert-Lewin converted for his second of the night.

The Young Lions weren’t done there with Dominic Solanke, Reiss Nelson and a late Christian Garcia own goal completing the resounding win. England’s next generation finish their qualifying campaign with a trip north of the border for a game against Scotland at Tynecastle on Tuesday

Elsewhere, Chris Mepham was not involved as Spain crushed Ryan Giggs’ Wales at the Principality Stadium. The 2010 World Champions all-but sealed the victory in the opening 30 minutes as Paco Alcácer struck twice, either side of a Sergi Ramos header in Cardiff.

Both sides made changes in the second-half with Spain extending their lead through Marc Bartra inside the final quarter of an hour. The home fans did at least have something to cheer about in the last minute as Sam Vokes’ header crept past Chelsea keeper Kepa.

Chris, who missed the game through injury will hopefully return to the starting XI on Tuesday as The Red Dragons head to Dublin to take on the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League.

Watch Ezri Konsa and Chris Mepham live at Griffin Park next week when we face Bristol City on Saturday 20 October.
