Maxim Tonyshev opened the scoring for the home side in Jelgava after just eight minutes and the home side's cause was helped further as Georgios Liavas saw red ten minutes before the break. Tonyshev made it 2-0 just before the hour and that was how it finished.
The two sides meet again on Monday as Latvia prepare for the UEFA European Championship qualification matches in November. Those games take place in Cyprus from 13-19 of next month.
