B Team trio get International minutes

Racic, Zamburek and Andersson play in Europe

12 October 2018

Three Brentford B players were in action for their national teams this week; Luka Racic, Jan Zamburek and Simon Andersson.

Two other players are on duty with their squads in Kolbeinn Finnsson and Mads Bech Sorensen but neither were used in yesterday's games.

Iceland Under-21s lost 1-0 to Northern Ireland thanks to a late goal from Arsenal's Daniel Ballard. It sent the Northern Irish second in Group 2 of the UEFA European Championship qualifiers, behind Spain - who have already progressed.

Iceland U21s have confirmed their fourth place finish behind Slovakia after the defeat, and can go no higher or lower regardless of their result against Spain to come. Albania and Estonia are the teams making up the bottom of the group.

Goalkeeper Simon Andersson played in Sweden Under-18s 4-0 defeat to England at St George's Park. Tyrece John-Jules opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Faustino Anjorin added one before half-time. Arvin Appiah and Ethan Laird scored one each in the second half to confirm a victory for the Young Lions.

Czech Republic midfielder Jan Zamburek got the first half in a 2-1 loss to the Netherlands. The Czechs had scored in the seventh minute to see them into the break with a slender lead. Zamburek was then brought off for Matej Radosta, as the hosts conceded two in the second half.

Luka Racic made his first appearance since returning from a hamstring injury during Denmark Under-20s' 3-0 win over Russia in Spain. Luka was brought on for the last 20 minutes with the Danes already in control of the match. This game saw Sorensen miss out on a place, still a doubt with a knock of his own to recover from.
