Take part in Red January to improve your mental health

A warm welcome to RED January! It’s great to have you on side. We’re asking you to join us by taking part in RED January to support the EFL’s charity partner, Mind the mental health charity.

Like football, RED January is fueled by community spirit. By teaming up this RED January, your club can kick-start 2019 in the most positive way - by getting active every day. Together we’ll champion the positive power physical activity can have on our mental health, whilst raising funds for RED January’s exclusive charity partner Mind.

What is RED January?

RED January began in 2016, with a focus on running every day (R.E.D - run every day January). RED is now more inclusive than ever, allowing participants to get active every day, their way, to support their mental health.

It gives people a focus during a typically tough month and motivates ‘REDers’ through its online community. Those taking part can choose to support themselves and others by raising vital funds for RED January’s exclusive charity partner Mind.

Whether it’s running 5k or walking to work a new way, a morning swim or taking your bike for a spin, your club and supporters can join thousands of people around the UK, kick-starting their 2019 in the most positive way.

Why Support Mind?

Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem. That could be hundreds of football players, and thousands of football fans. All funds raised this RED January will go to the official charity partner Mind, as they work to provide advice and support to anyone experiencing a mental health problem. Together, RED January, Mind and the EFL will use the power of football to improve the nation’s wellbeing and to change lives.

Why take part in RED January?

RED January can help strengthen your clubs presence in the community while supporting your fan’s mental health, providing a common goal for all.

By taking part, you can raise funds for Mind’s vital work in making sport and physical activity more accessible to those experiencing mental health problems, helping them to gain support by getting active.

How to Make the Most of RED January

There are lots of ways you can support your community by offering RED January to your fan base. Here are some other ways you can make the most out of this unique opportunity: 

-        Promote our exclusive RED January page so we can track how many members of the football community take part: football.redtogether.co.uk (Link to go live on 8 Nov)

-        Ask players and staff to share your club’s social media postsso we can reach even more fans, helping them find the tools they need to manage their mental health.

-        Host RED January community events, inviting fans to come together to get active and raise funds for Mind
