Henrik sits out as Denmark draw

Dalsgaard on the bench for Nations League game

20 November 2018

Henrik Dalsgaard watched from the bench as Denmark completed their National League campaign last night. The Brentford defender was an unused substitute as his country drew 0-0 with Republic of Ireland in a Nations League B Group 4 match in Aarhus. The game was the final one for both teams in the competition and was, effectively, a dead rubber with Denmark already securing promotion to League A and Ireland already relegated.

Denmark dominated the game with Ireland happy to sit in and defend. The hosts hit the post in the second half and had countless other chances but could not find a way through. The game ended 0-0 which left Denmark with eight points from four games and top of the table. Henrik was named as a substitute and was not needed but there was an international recall for former Brentford defender Andreas Bjelland, who won his 29th cap and first since November 2017.

Henrik did not add to his 18 caps but will now be looking forward to qualification matches for the upcoming UEFA European Championships, which will be held in 2020, as well as National League A games starting after that tournament. Henrik has won 14 caps since joining Brentford last summer. Only John Buttigieg, who played 22 games for Malta while with The Bees, has won more caps while a Brentford player.
