David Titov played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday as Latvia grabbed a dramatic late point from their Under-19 European Championship Qualifying opener against Russia in Cyprus.
Russia took the lead on the half-hour mark through Gamid Agalarov. That looked like it would be the decisive goal as the clock ticked past 90 at the Stelios Kyriakides Stadium in Paphos. However, second-half substitute Raivis Ķiršs netted in the third minute of added time to ensure that the Latvians left with a share of the points.
The cap was David’s eighth at Under-19 level since he made his debut back in June. Group 11’s other game also ended in a draw as the hosts, Cyprus, held Montenegro in a goalless encounter in Pegeia. Next up for Latvia is a game against Montenegro on Friday back in Paphos.
Elsewhere in qualifying, Patrik Gunnarsson and Iceland’s Under-19s get their Group 5 campaign underway today with a game against Turkey in Manavgat.
